Great cellphone service vendor in Boston

March 20th, 2006 · 2 Comments · review, technology

I never thought of Boston as a hot area for mobile phone and service vendors. That would be NYC. Many of the the mail order, unlocking, global GSM phones are based NYC. Almost by luck I ran into this little kiosk shop at Boston’s Prudential Mall — Warlox Wireless. Evan, probably the owner, handles unlocking and repairing and flashing phones. It’s great to find a knowledgable and friendly and local vendor like this, especially if you want to hand over your, probably expensive, cellphone for “modding”. For me I was trying to get a pretty much damaged SE phone repaired. He tried very hard to fix it for me, but it was beyond repair at the end. He did not charged me for the attempt, and we also had a great conversation on phones and phone techs. The only “bad news” is that he might have talked me into upgrading (not from him because he does not carry that particular model) to a more expensive phone.

If you need some phone repair, flashing, or unlocking, pay them a visit.

I had a terrible experience with this kiosk and would absolutely not recommend it to ANYONE! I purchased a cell phone clip, which the person working the kiosk placed on the cell phone for me, then asked if I wanted the packaging with no reason why I would need to keep it. I said no, took my receipt and went on my way. Unfortunately when my phone rang later I discovered that the clip also encompassed the flip portion of my phone so by the time I removed the cell from the clip I missed the call.

Went back to the kiosk a day later, today, and the “manager” told me that he would not exchange it because I did not have the packaging. When I informed him that I was not made aware of this requirement when the clip was placed on, he basically said that it was my problem, then pulled out the sign from behind the register stating that packaging was required. When I told him I didnt see it because I was standing exactly where I was now at the tine the purchase was made, he again said that was also my problem for standing there. Completely and totally rude beyond anything I’ve ever seen or experienced! I was amazed that someone could be so rude to a customer without blinking an eye. The worst part is that when I asked if there was someone else I could talk to he told me to call the number on my receipt. Turns out the number on my receipt is him, “the manager” at the kiosk! The rudeness only became worse when I called. Basically, I’m sol and basically threw away $16.

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience. I only have three interactions with them and it had been pleasent. “Your mileage may varies” I guess. I hope you find a better clip that fit your cellphone. Good luck!
