I went back and forth with the seller a few times, but she is basically holding on to her end of the price. I just think that it is too high. So ... keep looking.
Offer is In !
Ok. Narrowed my choices down and put in one bid for a down town loft. The bid is aggressive and reasonable. The plan is in motion... Selecting the right loft was/is a difficult decision process. Location, building, views, facilities, parking, transportation access, noise, retail access (supermarket, dry cleaners, take out food, postoffice..), etc.
Part of the moving process is to clear out existing stuff getting ready for move. Don't forget, I am the master of moving, as you can see in my moving tips back in 1996. Now it is time for me to follow my own advice again. Anticipating this move (you know I'll move eventually) I have been slowly putting up a lot of my belongings for sale. Simplify, simplify, even if I am not moving.
What are the stuff that I'll missing, living at the Farm?
- Watching a pair of wild rabbits playing in the driveway
- falling asleep and waking to the sound of birds
- moon lite back deck at 3am
- smell of clean clean air
- practising rollerblade in front of my house around the cul-de-sac
- hopping on to the bike path 1/2 mile away
- neighbohood dinner
Why Lofts?
Good question. I don't really remember when I started liking lofts. Come to think of it I don't think I actually know anyone who lives in a loft. You see lofts on TV, in movies, in design magazines. These lofts obviously look good. Have I actually spend a lot of time in a loft? I don't think so. What I do know is that I like open space. Height especially. During my boarding school days I get used to living in very large and open space. I find it calming. That's why I never like old Victorian houses, even most of them are big in square footage. Lot's of little rooms are not for me.
The other thing is that I alway want something architecturally different. Even this current house -- the best thing is that it is nothing like a normal Colonial. A open space with high ceiling and big window is, architecturally different, and interesting.
How to pick the right one? Location -- what is a good location? A city loft needs to be accessible without driving.
Blog from the Loft
After moving from blogger to movableType, I am also renaming the blog to Blog from the Loft. Why? I am considering moving to a downtown Loft. A blog will be an ideal way to journal the process. But the real reason is, blog from the Loft just sounds kinda cool.
